Why Children Must Participate in Sports.

Sports are a great activity that children participate in. This is because it provides a lot of benefits, and not just with physical activity. Children participating in sports help build up their confidence and self-esteem. It motivates children in excelling academically and also build their social skills. Nicotine, Smoking, and Sports

Smoking has definitely seen its populate wane in recent years.  There are just fewer people that are smoking, it seems.  That, likely, requires qualification because it may not be true for all areas or countries.  It’s safe to say that in parts of Asia, smoking is still very popular with many people taking part in smoking cigarettes.

But, when we look at the United States, the story is different.  There was a lot of backlash and vocal criticism of smoking and the tobacco industry in the past couple of decades.  The companies involved in the industry were demonized for their role in the health impacts that arises from the activity.  Those impacts are lung cancer, throat cancer, emphysema, premature aging, and a variety of other ill effects.

There have been popular movies, some based on fact, that have come about also leading to the overall downfall of smoking as a glamorous or desirable activity.  Again, this all holds true in the United States and maybe some other parts of the Western developed countries.  But, in other places, like Asia and Latin America it likely isn’t true or not as much.

Interestingly, there has been information and concern that it’s not so much the tobacco itself that is the cause of the bulk of the health problems.  That, it may in fact be the additional additives that are involved in the cigarette product.  These are chemicals, maybe by-products, perhaps environmental pollutants, or items added to potentially make the product more desirable to the user from a physiological perspective.  Some of this may be conjecture or conspiracy theories, but some of it has also been based on facts.  One company that was squarely in the cross-hairs of the anti-smoking crowd was RJ Reynolds.  They are a long-time tobacco and cigarette producer and took a beating in the popular media and in the courts.

Now, when we look at smoking and the athlete, it’s very interesting.  You would think that smoking isn’t something an athlete would do in terms of his or her performance.  Surprisingly, however, there are quite a few athletes that did and still do smoke.  We won’t name names here, but they are fairly well known and a Google search will uncover that it’s not that rare.  The reason that folks may want to smoke or one of the reasons is the delivery of the nicotine that tobacco contains into the user’s body.  Nicotine is a classified drug that has certain affects, one of them being a depressant.  So, some athletes may potentially have a use for such an affect on their bodies in conjunction with whatever sport they participate.

So, what is really interesting in recent development is the advent of electronic cigarettes.  These products provide the ability to get nicotine delivered into the body without actually smoking, per se.  This has been a good thing to at least get folks to a better and more healthy place.  Another very interesting part is that these products can provide a range of flavors, scents, and experiences for the user.  Here’s a site that explains these well and has an interesting item called the RedKiwi.

While it’s great to get your child shipped off to sports practices and actual games on their own and with the teams, there are many times that the family wants to have fun together!  So, it’s great that there are a range of options of what to do as a family.  Board games are a good option for when you’re feeling particularly lazy and would like to just site and enjoy a fun game with your family.  Other time, however, you may be feeling energetic and would like to do something more active together.

If a family has pets, there are a lot of fun things that can be done with them.  You can take a dog for a walk in the park or play catch with them.  You can do this in your back yard and within the confines of your own home, too, of course.  Whether it’s a ball, a Frisbee, or a favorite chew toy, hours of fun can be had running around with one’s dog or dogs.  If you have a cat, your options a bit different.  Cats are supremely playful, but they’re not quite the same creature as a dog, especially when it comes to playing with a Frisbee or retrieving balls.  There are a lot of fun things to do with cats, though, such as specific cat toys to play chase and hunt.  These could be feathers, stuffed toys in the shape of mice or birds, or even laser pointers.

When the family wants to play along with each other and not necessarily with a pet, you have the major sports that can be played together, such as baseball, basketball, or football.  There are also a variety of sports, too, that can be played such as volleyball, badminton, and even some golf in the back yard.  When the entertainment features the indoors, that when we think about the popular table games, such as foosball and table tennis.  Both of these are well represented in homes and clubs around the country and world.

The reasons are simple; they are great sports to play either at an easy fun level all the way up to extreme athleticism and competition.  Table tennis, for example, has been an Olympic sport for many decades and if you ever watch it, you will likely be stunned with the skills, speed, and artistry of it all.  Foosball is another game that families enjoy immensely and is also played at the highest skill levels and competitions.  It’s a great choice because you can play simply one on one or get more of the family involved in up to 3 on 3 or 4 on 4 matches.

Any way you look at it, these indoor sports are great opportunities for family and friends to spend nice quality time together.  You can also get your blood pumping, lots of calories burned, and feed the healthy competitive spirit with any of these sports.  There are choices, when it comes to picking the right foosball table for your family.  Some popular brands include Carrom and Tornado Foosball Tables.  The prior link will allow you to read guides about the different tables and which can be best choice for you.

How to Choose the Right Sport For Your Child

While the highly recommended approach would be to let your child choose a sport that they love to participate, you might be hearing the words “What Should I Play?” from your child.

Sports and children seem to go together for many families. It is a fact that not all children are that active in sports and go for other activities instead. However, a lot of children would prefer to go with the opportunity of getting involved with the athletic experience instead.

Being a parent, it is a significant act of choosing a sport for your kid. Children have preferences, and you have to be observant about it, too. There are those that are more inclined towards team sports while the others go for individual ones.

The child’s body type also play a role as well since there are certain body types better suited to specific sports than the others. There are also other children that are more interested in low impact sports and those that are more anxious to get into a more physically demanding opportunity.

So how can you, as a parent, be able to help your child pick the best sport that will serve their preferences?

Expose the child to different sports

Your kid’s interest will only be sparked when they see different sports. You will be able to determine this since they will display an attitude that they are interested in it. So exposing the child to different sports by letting them watch it on television is a good start. But it is an even better experience if they see it in real life as a spectator. Communicate with your child about what they don’t like and like about every sport they see.

Watch out for any Signs of Enthusiasm

As you and your child check out different sports, try to see whether you can tell which of the sports that seem to spark an interest in your child. Listen to any hints regarding their preferences. They might be talking about strategies, the players or they might prefer to tell others regarding their experience. They might even gravitate towards their friends that play a certain sport. You must listen and watch closely, and you will be able to pick on clues about the sports that they are interested the most.

Check their preference: individual or team sport?

Some children prefer to engage in a team sport such as basketball, baseball or football, wherein they play a particular role in the team. Others prefer being part of a team wherein their skills matter most. Such sports are golf, tennis or swimming. Or they just want to participate in individual sports such as gymnastics and cycling. Try to find out what your child’s preferences are as you observe them. The results of these observations will reward you greatly as it will tell you the kind of sport that will work best for your child.

Match the sport with the body type

A stocky and short child is more suited to play in football than with basketball. A lanky and tall one may be better for the track. While you will always find shorter kids playing basketball while the smaller ones playing football, the odds of them getting success at a very young age always has something to do with their body style.

Try out multiple sports

When you have narrowed down the sports that your child is likely going to participate, try each of them. It is recommended to avoid your child playing more than one sport in any season, it is preferable to have them play volleyball during winter, football during fall and soccer during spring. As they have started out identifying the sport that they are attuned to, you can drop the other sports on your list as needed.
